Website:

Delivered by the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health (NCISH), this programme has collected in-depth information on all suicides in the UK since 1996. It works closely with service users and carers in the design and development of its studies, understanding that it is important to listen to the experiences and opinions of patients, family members, friends and carers, who have been involved with mental health services.

WARNING: The outputs from this programme include some details that may be distressing for some readers.

Supporting improvement

NCISH recommendations have improved patient safety in mental health settings and reduced patient suicide rates, contributing to an overall reduction in suicide in the UK. Its evidence is cited in national policies and clinical guidance and regulation in all UK countries.
